MND Australia is the national peak body for MND care and research in Australia. The MND Australia network comprises of six state Associations, representing all states and territories. The MND Research Institute of Australia (MNDRIA) is the research arm of MND Australia.

MND Australia members work together to advance, promote, and influence local and national efforts to achieve the vision of a world free of MND.

The MND Association of New Zealand is an Associate Member.

Motor Neurone Disease Australia Activities

  • Represents member organisation in national issues
  • Represents Australia in global ALS/MND issues, through the International Alliance
  • Undertakes development in national resources, including:
    Leaflets: MND Some Facts & More Facts, A Range of Fact Sheets, Aspects of Care for the Primary Healthcare Team, Aspects of Care for Staff of Residential Aged Care Facilities, the Talking With Young People About MND series
  • Funds national research projects
  • Acts as a clearing house for sharing State initiatives
  • Promotes awareness of MND nationally, particularly to Federal Government, and via national media, especially during Motor Neurone Disease Week and ALS/MND Global Awareness Day (21 June)
  • Develop the website http://www.mndcare.net.au, a website specifically designed to provide one-stop shop information to health and community care professionals

Services from member organisations include:

  • Personal and telephone support
  • Information (print, Internet and direct, including newsletters)
  • Needs identification and co-ordination of services delivery to clients
  • Loan of disability aids and equipment
  • Education for health professionals and other service delivery to clients
  • Member meetings, via a network of metropolitan and rural support group
  • Promoting awareness about MND to State Governments and the general community
